‘MOVING FORWARD’

In Genesis 12:1 God commands Abram to leave his homeland, relatives, and his father’s house and go to a place that God Himself will show him. It meant leaving the place of comfort and predictability. Leaving the “same old, same old.” Leaving a life he had grown accustomed to. Life in Haran, his second home.
This was something new for Abram. Yet it was not really new because his father had left Ur of the Chaldeans and was headed to Canaan before he got bogged down in Haran. By the way, Terah also died in Haran. Haran could be a place of compromise, and death. God has called us to do “new” things that are not really new. It’s the old commands and promises that we have been called to step out on. You remember them don’t you?

Matthew 28:19-20: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (NKJV)

Acts 1:8: “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” (NKJV)

Some how we got bogged down like Abram’s father. We got involved with programs and activity. We are “busy bees,” but we are not producing any honey. Abram had to leave the comforts of Haran and family. He had to step out on God’s commands, and believe God’s promises.

We also need to separate ourselves from “church work” and do the work of the church. Henry Blackaby, remember him? He says in his book “Experiencing God,” ‘You cannot stay where you are and go with God!’
Jesus says, “Go, make disciples, baptizing them, teaching them.” “Don’t worry, I will be with you, forever.” Some may ask, “Where shall we go?” Here’s His answer:

Jerusalem – Local church area community

Judea – Prince George’s County and vicinity (Greater Washington Metro Area)

Samaria – North America and Canada

The World – Asia, South America, Europe, Australia, Central America, and Africa.

Can you hear the Macedonian Call? “Come over and help us!!!”
People need the “Message of Hope” that Jesus is the answer to any question they may have.
It’s time for us to “move forward and believe God’s promises.” Genesis 12:1-3.
