Genesis 12:1 God commands Abram to leave his homeland, relatives,
and his father’s house and go to a place that God Himself
will show him. It meant leaving the place of comfort and
predictability. Leaving the “same old, same old.” Leaving
a life he had grown accustomed to. Life in Haran, his second
home. This was something new for Abram. Yet it was not really
new because his father had left Ur of the Chaldeans and was
headed to Canaan before he got bogged down in Haran. By the
way, Terah also died in Haran. Haran could be a place of
compromise, and death. God has called us to do “new” things
that are not really new. It’s the old commands and
promises that we have been called to step out on. You remember
them don’t you?
